The original Problem:

Everyday several hundred of thousands of ball pens go missing. This is such a great nuissance that a British/U.S. research team has conducted a research programme for discovering why and how.

Conclusion:

It turns out that ball pens are really small starships inhabited by a very small alien species. The diagram above shows the specific details. The researchers also concluded that the well-known fact that all the good ball pens disappear leaving only the bad is due to an extraodinarily simple fact:

"The pens are fuelled by the ink. If the ink level is too low the starship will not fly thus leading to the fact that only the ink-less pens are left behind", Paul Longman of NASA told us.

The scientists also conclude that if we humans did not have the habit of using up the fuel, the alien species would have a chance to finally go home again. They are clearly not feeling treated well on Earth and are longing to get home.
